ABOUT OMAR LAY AND TEMS ARREST

I condemn the arrest not because these are celebrities or Nigerians but because the show should never have been allowed in the fast place. That said, contrary to the public outcry that these two should not be held responsible but that the arrest should be for the organizers, I say no.
In law there are several participants in the commission of an offence. These two artists were the perpetrators of the offence for which they are being charged i.e breaching covid guidelines. If they had not agreed to perform, we would not be having this conversation at this time.
Like they say when you go to Rome do as the Romans do. These artists ought to have done their home work. I don't see any prudent person who would allow to do a public performance at such a time when the aura at the airport alone should have indicated the general opinion and stance about covid in Uganda. The artists and their managers ought to have known that Uganda is not Tanzania where covid is not really recognized. They should have known that their performance would have far reaching consequences for them and the general public especially at such a time when Uganda has a surge in covid cases.
To the law enforcers, crime prevention should be the ultimate objective. Why weren't your ears on the ground. Why pretend after the fact. Shouldn't the OC of the area be held culpable for aiding and abetting the commission of this offence. As gatekeepers of the law, the police miserably failed at this. In my view everyone in the chain including the revellers should be held responsible. Otherwise, let's stop pretending. There should be no discriminate prosecution.
Yours truly
